The London Eye… in Ecuador!

Many people are familiar with the London Eye. That giant Ferris wheel that allows tourists a bird’s eye view over the city of London. Well, there is a similar wheel in  Guayaquil, Ecuador. It is a central part of the Malécon 2000.

On weekdays, the cost for foreigners to ride “La Perla” (“The Pearl”) is $3.50 per person. On Fridays and Saturdays that shoots up to the astronomical sum of $7.50 per person.

A single revolution takes around 10-12 minutes. Although the nearby hilltop is taller and affords just as nice views for free, as long as you’re willing to climb the 444 steps to get there, it is definitely worth it to ride La Perla.

Each capsule is fully enclosed and accommodates 4-6 people.

I believe they are even wheelchair friendly, which is more than can be said for the hilltop.
