Cactus Flowers

By the side of a busy road in Guayaquil, where basically no one pays attention or appreciates them, stand a bunch of very large cacti.

I was fortunate enough to see them in full flower.

The flowers on these cacti last only 3-4 days. So when I returned the next day to photograph them, the flowers had already closed up and I thought that perhaps I had missed my chance. Then I was told by a local woman that they only opened at night. It took several trips to get photos of them in full flower again.

Even without the flowers, these cacti are majestic and beautiful.
