Antoni Gaudí was a Spanish architect who lived from the late 1800s until the early 1900s.
One of his most famous works is a giant cathedral that is the single most-visited site in all of Spain: the Sagrada Família.
Gaudí began construction of the Sagrada Família in 1883 and worked on it until his death in 1926. Construction continues to this day and is not expected to be complete until at least 2026, the centenary of Gaudí’s death.
Most of his plans and blueprints were destroyed during the Spanish civil war in 1936. The front part of the cathedral, which was constructed after his death, is vastly different from the back part, which was built under his direct supervision.
